Tropical Depression Gener Nears Northern Luzon, Landfall Expected Soon

 


Manila, Philippines - As of 5 p.m. today, Tropical Depression Gener is located approximately 290 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. The depression is steadily moving closer to Northern Luzon, and is expected to make landfall in either Isabela or Aurora by Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

Gener is currently packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour. The central pressure of the depression is 996 hectopascals.

After making landfall, Gener is projected to emerge over the coastal waters of La Union or Pangasinan late Tuesday morning or afternoon.

In anticipation of the depression's impact, Wind Signal No. 1 remains in effect for the following 19 areas in Luzon:

  • Cagayan including Babuyan Islands
  • Isabela
  • Quirino
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Apayao
  • Kalinga
  • Abra
  • Ifugao
  • Mountain Province
  • Benguet
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Ilocos Sur
  • La Union
  • Pangasinan
  • Zambales
  • Tarlac
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Aurora  
  • Northern portion of Quezon (General Nakar, Infanta, Real) including Polillo Islands

Residents in these areas are advised to monitor updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
